AGOURA HILLS, California – Shari Corbitt, Psy.D., owner and founder of Awakenings Treatment Center, has been selected as a 2020 nominee for the Valley Mentors Awards.

The inaugural Valley Mentors Awards from the San Fernando Valley Business Journal recognizes professionals who have provided valuable mentorship to others in their company or industry.

These mentors have taken it upon themselves to lift up the next generation of leaders, guiding them through workplace challenges, explaining the ins-and-outs of the job, offering encouragement, and making introductions that help advance mentees’ careers.

As one of only 20 professionals chosen for the SVBJ Valley Mentors Award, Dr. Corbitt, a renowned clinical psychologist, and addiction specialist, founded the Awakenings Treatment Center in 2010. Awakenings helps people suffering from drug addiction, serious mental health disorders, chronic pain, trauma, PTSD, autistic spectrum disorder, and dual diagnosis disorders.

“I’m excited and honored to receive this nomination,” said Dr. Corbitt. “While I have never formally considered myself a mentor, I think it is second nature for those of us in the healing professions to want to support and guide the next generation of healers and therapists. It benefits everybody when those new to this field are properly supported and encouraged in their work, and ultimately means more people who are hurting can receive the quality help they need.”

Over the past decade, Dr. Corbitt has grown the Awakenings Treatment Center to encompass a staff of 30 specialists providing a wide range of mental health and addiction treatment modalities. These specialists receive regular training and support to ensure they meet the highest standards required by both state licensing bodies and Awakenings Treatment Center protocols.

Dr. Corbitt holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University in New York. Before founding Awakenings Treatment Center, she spent a decade providing treatment and therapy to diverse populations across the Southwest, including working as Director of Human Services on the Rincon Indian Reservation in Pauma Valley, Calif., as the Clinical Director at Sierra Tucson in Tucson, Ariz., and as Vice President of Promises Treatment Centers in Malibu.

–Awakenings Treatment Center is located at 28632 Roadside Drive, Suite 210, in Agoura Hills. For more information, call 855-717-3268 or visit awakeningstreatment.com/admissions.
