Watch a Concert Performance

The City of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services and the City of Westlake Village are hosting a winter performance for the Community Concert and Jazz Bands. The event will be held on March 16th from 4pm to 6pm at the Agoura High School PAEC. Admission is free, and you get to support local artists. It’s a fun and alcohol-free way to kick off St. Patty’s Day weekend.

Attend the Spring Spectacular at Moorpark College

Moorpark College Zoo is hosting their annual Spring Fundraiser, highlighting the work of their 2nd year students. The Spring Spectacular will be held on March 16th-17th and March 23rd-24th.

The main attraction is a silly, scripted show put on by students and meant for all ages. Other highlights include the Eye to Eye Wildlife Presentations, the Creature Feature, and Ira’s Kingdom and Discovery Stations. Drop in for some fun during St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Enjoy the “Sweeney Todd” Matinee

Another fun event where alcohol won’t be the focus is the production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. There is a matinee on March 17th at 2pm at the Moorpark College Performing Arts building.

Tickets for Sweeney Todd cost $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. You can save 20% when you purchase advance tickets online. Additional showtimes are available, so pick one that fits your schedule and check out the local talent!

Throw a Sober St. Patrick’s Day Party

Since most St. Patrick’s Day events involve alcohol, consider hosting your own party. This way, you can control the environment and spend time with people who respect your choices and/or choose sobriety themselves. Put up green decorations, play Bingo, enjoy traditional Irish fare, listen to Irish music, and even whip up festive, green mocktails. You won’t even miss the alcohol!

Host a Movie Night

Gather friends or family for an Irish-themed movie night. Choose films that celebrate Irish culture, history or folklore, such as Wild Mountain Thyme and Dancing at Lughnasa. You can find more Irish films here to stream at your leisure. Serve up some Irish snacks and enjoy a cozy evening at home, free of large crowds, rowdy people and next-day hangovers.

Cook an Irish Meal

There are many delicious meals you can prepare for the holiday, so if you love to cook, put your time and energy into this. Spend time picking out your menu, and then shop for fresh ingredients at your local grocery store. Some popular options include soda bread, Irish stew, corned beef and cabbage, and shepherd’s pie.

Volunteer

Consider giving back to the community on St. Patrick’s Day by volunteering. Many organizations and charities host special events or could use extra help around this time, especially since participation goes way down after the holidays. Volunteering at senior centers, animal shelters, soup kitchens, and food pantries can be a fulfilling way to connect with others and make a positive impact.
